Lost passport
New passports can only be issued at the Swedish embassy or in Sweden.
You can request to have your passport sent to the consulate. Book time for pick up
Following documents and fee are required to collect a passport from the consulate:
- Your old passport so that it can be cancelled
- If you do not have your old passport, current valid photo identification
- A £17 collection fee paid in cash, we do not have credit/debit
card facilities and cannot accept cheques.

Only for a specific, imminent (within 2-3 days) journey
In order for the consulate to issue you with an emergency passport, we would require the following:
- A completed application form will be sent up on request
- Current photo identification
- 3 x passport sized photos
- A valid ticket for journey.
For children under the age of 18 the following additional documents are required: - Swedish ID-number
- The child must come to the Consulate with at least one parent/legalguardian.
- A Guardian Certificate, signed by both parents and witnessed by two witnesses permanently residing in the UK. The witnesses’ signatures and names in block letters as well as their addresses and telephone numbers are required.
- If the child has only one guardian, proof of sole custody.
- If the child was born abroad, a birth certificate stating the names of both parents must be submitted.
- The parents/legal guardians must prove their own identity by valid passport or valid photo ID.
- Please note all documents must be submitted in original and the application form filled in. Copies are made by the Consulate.
- The fee for an emergency passport is £141. The consulate can only accept cash, we do not have credit/debit card facilities and cannot accept cheques
- Before travel it is the applicant’s responsibility to check if the country he/she is travelling to accepts a Swedish emergency passport.
- Emergency passports are issued for one urgent journey only.

Swedish passport for newborn
You will first need to apply for a ” samordnings nummer”, then the passport, more information on this link
In order to complete an application for a Swedish ID number, you will require to bring along with you to the appointment at the consulate:
- Form SKV7750 (in Swedish) to be completed
- Form of Information on Verification of Swedish Citizenship
- Confirmation Letter
- A mother and baby Discharge Summary from the hospital
- Proof of both parents’ identity (valid passport). If only one parent submits the application, he/she must bring the other parent’s passport.
- Marriage certificate, if the parents are married.
- Birth certificate of the child, stating the names of both parents.
- If the Swedish mother/father has never lived in Sweden, proof that
she/he has retained Swedish nationality - if the Swedish mother/father came to the UK before 1998 as an adult
a Letter of non-acquisition of British nationality. - There is no fee for the application of a Swedish ID number, so called co-ordination number ( samordings nummer)
- Before a child, born abroad, can apply for a first passport, the parent’s/legal guardians must register the child’s name and obtain a Swedish ID number.
- All documents must be submitted to the Consulate in original.
- An incomplete application is not accepted.
- The process can take 4-6 weeks.
- The application and documents must be submitted in person to the Consulate.

Housing
Rent, buy, flat/house or rent a room. Fastest way is to internet search “finding flat or room edinburgh”. You will in most cases have to be in Edinburgh to find your housing. Expect three months deposit. Depending on your budget prepare to stay at a hostel, b&b or hotel for a month while you search for your permanent housing.

Doctor
You will need to register with your local GP ( general practitioner) where you live. Register as soon as possible. You will need proof of address.

Bank account
There are several app banks as well as traditional banks to set up your bank account with.
You will need proof of identity and proof of address.
Proof of identity: This can take the form of a passport, drivers licence or national identity card.
Proof of address: This is generally a recent utility bill, rental contract, council tax bill.

Voting
If you are Swedish citizen you can vote in local elections including election to the Scottish parlament.
It is important to be register to vote not only for voting, to be in the electoral roll is important aswell for the credit scoring, the bank use credit scoring if you apply for a loan. Register to vote here
